Don’t forget your license!

We received a call this week asking us what the law is on streaming music over the internet and how you go about getting a license. After giving out the necessary advice we realised that we had no information about this around the website. In this post you will find everything you need to know about the licenses you will need to stream music, or any kind of sounds for that matter, over the internet.

Unless what you are broadcasting is your own material then it is imperative that you purchase a license. You can get a license from the PPL Website where you can decide what type of license you need. There are two types of Online Radio Station licenses on offer. Small Webcaster License or Standard Webcaster license.

Small Webcaster license

To qualify for the small webcaster license your annual revenue will need to be less than £5,000 and your station will need to play more than 270,000 songs per year. The cost for one of these licenses are as follows:

(a) £156.06 as a non-refundable advance against Webcasting royalties in respect of each channel in the service
(b) £23.41 as a non-refundable advance against Dubbing royalties in respect of each channel in the service

Standard Webcaster License

Streaming Services blog goes live!

When Atlas first took over the Streaming Services website one of the first things we wanted to do was to implement a blog so that we had a fast and easy way to get in touch with our clients, both new and existing.

So now here it is, the brand new blog! We’ve added a few previous news items that outline some events that have happened in the build up to this release so please do check them out. We will be using this blog to mainly update you with the new and exciting features we have planned for the near future but it will also be the main hub for all of your Streaming Services related news.

Following the requests of several existing clients we have added a couple more guides to the website to help you achieve the best possible quality when streaming your media. Head over to the streaming media guide to check them out.

Atlas purchases streaming-services.co.uk

Streaming Services has new owners! Software development company Atlas Computer Systems have taken over the reigns from KashFlow sister company Key One, who have built the business from the ground up since 1998.

With the success of his online accounting software KashFlow, Duane Jackson felt it only right to focus all of his efforts that and therefore sought a buyer for the Streaming Services website.

Having worked with Atlas previously on a number of other projects Duane knew the company was going to a safe home. “We’ve worked with Atlas on a number of projects and they were the logical choice to take on the business. I wish Atlas all the best and hope they continue to grow the company for years to come” he said.

Simon Swords, manager of Atlas Computer Systems added “Considering our existing infrastructure and the potential market for streaming-services.co.uk we felt it was the right choice to take on the business. We’ll be looking at ways in which we can enhance the service streaming-services.co.uk provides over the coming months while offering existing customers a high level of support and continued value for money”.
