An Overview of DRM
DRM needn't be very complicated - you don't need to be a rocket scientist to understand the overview of how it all works.
Firstly you produce your content
and send it to our servers. This could be a live stream of video or audio or a pre-recorded file that you upload to us.
When a potential viewer/listener attempts to play the content, their Media Player will check to see if they have an appropriate license for it. If they do, then the content plays. If they don't then a web browser automatically opens on a page on your website where they can buy or be given a license.
If you want to, you can 'pre-deliver' licenses. This means that you can give the user a license before you give them the content.
A Real World Example
Lets assume you broadcast football matches live over the internet. You don't want just anyone to be able to watch the games. You only want people that are paying customers to be able to view it,
You already have an area on your website that can only be accessed by your paying customers.
First we would give you the information to enter into the 'Security' section of the encoding software so as to create a DRM-protected stream. We would thenhelp you set up a page on your website that issues a license to view the game and then redirects the user to your broadcast..
It doesn't matter if non-paying customers have the address of your broadcast. When they attempt to view it they'll just get a window open telling them to sign up to your website in order to be able to view.
