Fair Pricing
Most other providers of streaming
media services will charge you based on the number of
concurrent listeners you expect to have. For example,
this is a typical pricing table from another company that provides internet radio broadcasting:
| The Wrong Way To Charge |
| Listeners |
|
Price/Month |
| 10 |
|
£25 |
| 20 |
|
£48 |
| 30 |
|
£60 |
| 40 |
|
£75 |
So, you select the number of listeners you expect, lets assume 40.
You are now paying £75 per month for the ability to broadcast your internet radio station to forty people, simultaneously, at any given time.
If you really do have 40 people listening 24 hours a day - every day of the month - then this is fine.
You have nothing to worry about.
Paying For Nothing?
But the reality is that at certain times of the day you will have few or maybe no listeners to your internet radio station - whilst at other times you will have the full 40
If there are times that you have less than 40 people
listening then you are paying for something you are
not using.
The Alternative
We prefer to give you a set price for ' bandwidth
usage' based on the the actual amount of expected data
transfer per month instead of for a total number of concurrent
listeners.
Bandwidth usage is explained in full in our
Bandwidth
Explained page. The short explanation is that it
relates directly to how many listeners you actually
have and how long they view/listen for over the entire month.
The more
listeners your internet radio station has have and the higher quality the audio or video you are broadcasting
then the more bandwidth you will use.
A Fair Way To Pay
By using this alternative method you only pay for what you actually
use. If you have quiet periods with only a few listeners
then in your busier periods you can take advantage of
this fact and have much more than 40 listeners in your more
busy periods.
You pay for a monthly allocation of bandwidth, 50GB
for example. It is then up to you how you use this bandwidth;
you could have hundreds of listeners on one day and
very few for the rest of the month. Or you could have
a couple of hundred on a Friday evening and just a few dozen on
other days. The point is,
you are in control.
No Surprises
Regardless of which package you choose, you will never
receive an unexpected invoice from us.
We keep a close
eye on your bandwidth usage and you can too with our Bandwidth Stats Tool.
If it looks as if you are likely to exceed your limit
then we will contact you to discuss what the charges
are likely to be and measures we can take or recommend
to avoid them if this is what you prefer to do.
