User Guide (Microsoft Expression Encoder 4) - Getting Started

This page will help you set up Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 and start your live broadcast.

The first thing you need to do is download and install Microsoft Expression Encoder 4.

We should have provided you with the following information:

  • Your username
  • Your password
  • The server address
  • The publishing point name
  • The address to access your stream
    (this will usually be in the format http://<servername>/<publishingpoint>)

Once you have installed the Encoder you can access it by clicking
Start->Programs->Microsoft Expression->Microsoft Expression Encoder 4

When the program opens you should be presented with the following screen:

Select output on the right hand side and tick streaming

Add connection

Select the 'publishing point' option and enter the servername and publishing point. Clicking connect will open a new dialog for you to enter your username and password

Add Source

On the left hand side, select your 'live source' from a list of attached Audio/Video devices, then configure individual settings from the 'encode' tab on the right hand side.

Output Settings

From the 'meta data' tab on the right hand side you can enter the information about the stream such as Title and Author

Add Meta Data

On the live source thumbnail press 'cue'. You're now ready to start your stream. Press the 'Start' button and away you go!
