"The quickest way to start broadcasting audio or video on the internet"

How Streaming Media Works

Streaming media is audio and/or video fed continuously from a specialised streaming server to client computer via the internet. This technology is primarily used for live webcasts, but is also used for webcasting pre-recorded content from your website.

Unlike standard file downloads, streams are played as they arrive. This means there's little wait to begin playing a file and, because nothing is saved to the local hard drive, streamed data has no lasting impact on system performance.

Regardless of whether we are talking about audio or video, there are two main types of streaming media:

Live Broadcasts

In a live broadcast scenario, you have a computer at your studio or venue that is connected to the internet.

You simply plug in your audio source into the soundcard (and video in to video capture card if required), install and configure the software we provide with easy to follow instructions and click the 'Broadcast' button. Your computer then sends a continuous stream of data to our servers.

Whenever someone wants to connect to the audio or video feed, they connect to our servers and they see and hear whatever you are broadcasting.

Pre-Recorded Content

If you don't need to broadcast live, then you can instead store your pre-recorded audio or video files on our servers.

Your listeners can then connect directly to specific files. They don't have to wait for the entire file to download - it will start playing straight away. Our servers protect your files so that they can't be downloaded.
